P/C Bob Fitzgerald & Clinical Trauma Specialist Carolyn Lutcher
As I mention on the Military page, I have a strong interest in working with individuals who are required to perform under intense physical and psychological demands. That interest naturally extended to working with first responders and members of the Canadian Armed Forces. To serve these groups well, I’ve pursued advanced training in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of trauma, anxiety, and depression specific to first responder populations. I also bring first-hand experience that gives me a more grounded understanding of what police officers face—on and off the job.
During my career, I was contracted with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as part of Project: Reduce Domestic Violence. That role gave me a rare, front-line view into the real world of policing. I witnessed officers in action—under stress, in crisis, in the aftermath—and saw not just what they do, but what it costs them. Since then, I’ve worked primarily with the RCMP and municipal police forces. I've seen the impact of adrenaline surges, shift work, and the cumulative weight of critical incidents. These experiences don’t just leave a mark—they can change a person over time.
One of the hardest parts of trauma, anxiety, or depression is how it can quietly erode relationships. The effects often extend beyond the individual—into partnerships, friendships, and family dynamics. Parents may notice changes in their children, too, as stress reshapes the way they relate and connect. Part of our work may involve building strategies to restore peace at home, nurture closer bonds with kids, or improve communication with partners and friends. Healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it happens in relationships, too.
Clients often describe my therapeutic style as straightforward and supportive—compassionate, but not afraid to challenge. I offer a grounded, respectful space for real conversations, real healing, and forward movement. That balance of warmth and tough love can be incredibly effective when working through trauma and emotional pain. My goal is to help you get unstuck and move toward lasting change.
